The Ritzy Crew
Over fifteen years ago, I worked in a very high-class private school. It was located in Florida, about 2 blocks from the beach and catered to very wealthy families. I was excited to get the job in the school, but I had no idea how the wealthy lived until I started working there. It was like living in another world for sure.
For example, the school car line was where most parents were "keeping up with the Jone's". There were Porshe's, Mercedes, Maibach's, Bentleys, etc. If you drove up in a Chevy, you certainly got some dirty looks. Most of the "normal" cars were in the teacher parking lot.
A few times a year, we had a clean-up day where the kids would volunteer to help clean up in the surrounding community. That usually involved the beach, and it was always a fun day. One year, I had a parent rent a couple of limos to take the kids to the beach. We could have walked....it was only 2 blocks, but the parent didn't want the kids to get too hot. Included in the limos were premium bottles of water and snacks.
I did get close to some of the parents and one year, me and some other teachers were invited to a party given by a mother to celebrate her husband's 40th birthday. They lived on the beach in a home worth well over 10 million. When I entered the home, I was amazed at how beautiful it was. The beach was right there, there were butlers serving champagne and several servers dressed impeccably walking around the party goers catering to our every need. Also, circling the room were 40 podiums which each contained a birthday cake. The cakes were all different and several people were asking about them. The hostess told the crowd that she had ordered a cake from 40 different countries to make the party special for her husband. The cakes were so beautiful that nearly everyone invited to the party barely touched them.
Fundraisers were big at the school and there were two a year. One was located at a fancy golf club. I never played golf but would go anyway for the dinner and silent auction. Overseas trips, cars, and even condos were the items that were auctioned off. The other fundraiser was located at a luxury hotel on the beach and also included an auction and pretty famous band.
I miss those days! It's something that I will never forget!
