Homeschooling Facts

Did you know that over 9 million people have been homeschooled as of February 2020? (nheri.org) More and more parents are turning to homeschooling rather than traditional schooling and I wondered why. One of the facts that I saw actually said that homeschooled students score better in state tests than students in school. Wow, I guess that makes sense because there is more targeted instruction and more one on one learning, but I wanted to find out other reasons why parents decide to homeschool.

According to the National Homeschooling Research Institute, there are many reasons why parents homeschool. One of the most popular reasons is that parents can customize the learning environment and the curriculum for their child based on how they learn. This can help them to do better than they would in a traditional school setting. Other reasons include providing a safer atmosphere where kids don't have to worry about bullies and outside dangers and being able to impart your own family beliefs and values to your children that might not be taught in school.

Whatever the reason, homeschooled children seem to do better than in school children. They score higher on SAT and ACT tests, do better on tests, and are more actively recruited by colleges. What are your thoughts on homeschooling? Share your comments!
