Crazy Parents


Let's face it, some people are just plain crazy! I have seen some pretty crazy parents over the years. There have been the ones who just don't agree with you no matter what you do to try and please them. There are others who argue every point with you and still, there are others who just don't care at all. If you have taught for a few years, then you know what I am talking about.

My craziest parent was a woman who would often appear at school drunk. There were several times when she arrived in the carline to pick up her daughter and she would be driving up on the sidewalk and yelling at the kids. She was definitely hammered. Of course, we would call the police, and she would be arrested for yet another DUI. Eventually, they took her license away for good. 

We all wondered why she was drinking so much. Her daughter was sent to live with relatives for a while and that's when we found out the truth. It turns out that this woman had been raped by her own father. This rape had produced a child. It was not the daughter, but an older brother who had come to the school once or twice. He definitely had some problems and no wonder! Eventually, they got some help and things got somewhat better. But it was definitely a shocker!

Sometimes we just don't know what is going on in a person's mind. Their trauma may be causing their rash behavior. But it's our job to protect the kids, no matter what.

Back To Business!

  It has been a while since I wrote a new blog. I went on a little vacation and over those weeks I did some thinking about the future. I stepped away from teaching in June for many reasons. It wasn't me anymore. But I did enjoy it when I was in the classroom. That's why I came up with Tales of a Teacher. I wanted to share my stories with you. I still would wish that I could get some more readers and followers. I promise to keep it real and welcome comments at any time. So, here is the issue.... I'm going to be 59 at the end of March. Yikes! I don't feel that old and hopefully, I don't think I look that old. I have lots of energy, eat pretty healthy, and love the outdoors! How Important is Tutoring?

As a teacher and now a private tutor, I have seen how important it is to supplement a child's education. All children learn differently, and some do need the added benefit of a tutor. With a tutor, the child gets the attention that they need. It is often one on one and there are no distractions like those in the classroom. The tutor can really focus on that child and figure out how they learn. This is extremely beneficial. A tutor can also help your child to retain the information that they are learning in the classroom. One of the students that I tutor comes to me with projects and homework questions that he needs to do for his class. By having that extra hour after school, he is once again able to go over the things that he learned during his day in school.
